This is a new orchestra piece written with a Senior Arts Grant from the city of Ottawa. The title appears to refer to the now-past Canadian sesquicentennial, but, in fact, a reference to my father, who was born in 1917, and to me, who will turn 65 this year. There is a brief reference to the Tristan Prelude at the end. That made me think of my father who listened to opera as he wrote his notes in the evening. The piece itself is darker and more ominous than anything that would be suggested by my life or my father’s or by the Canadian sesquicentennial. The performance below is the premiere, on Nov. 10, 2017, by the University of Ottawa Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Currie.
