Chants, Dances and Meditations is one my favourite pieces that has never been performed. It was commissioned by the (now defunct) Canadian Oboe Trio, with funds from the City of Ottawa. They were unable to get it ready for the intended premiere date and then they split up. I have yet to find an Oboe Trio — there aren’t that many — willing to do it. It is a set of variations about 15 minutes in duration, expressing every kind of texture and mood. I think it could also be played by 3 clarinets — it’s all within range.
