I just don’t know . . .

I just don’t know . . . was commissioned by German mandolinist Daniel Ahlert with funds from the Canada Council. It is a short, single movement that tries to capture the essence of the mandolin without too much in the way of extended techniques. It develops to a loud climax toward the end, but finishes thoughtfully, as if with a question. I just don’t know . . . was premiered May 28, 2023 at the Klorinskirche in Koblenz, Germany.
